Lesbian Couple Attacked at Six Flags New England
The attack on two lesbian college students at Six Flags New England amusement park last week landed a pair of Massachusetts women in jail facing counts of assault and battery and violation of civil rights.
According to Mass Live, the victims, who both attend Bryant University in Rhode Island and are only identified as being 18 and 19 years old, said while they were on their way to the park's tram station, they noticed a woman in white shorts stop to stare at them while they were embracing each other.
One of the victims asked the woman if there was a problem, to which the woman said, "No, I'm just waiting for my kid." According to the police report, as the victim and her girlfriend walked away, the woman added, "I wouldn't care about your gay asses anyway."
The pair of college students said they ignored the comment, but the woman, later identified as Damarielys Mukhtar, 29, of Springfield, Mass., began yelling anti-gay slurs at them. When one of the victims turned around to her, Mukhtar allegedly began punching her in the face, pulling her hair and kicking her while she was on the ground.
While she was being beaten on the ground, the victim noticed another woman, later identified as Nikia L. Butt, 27, of Holyoke, Mass., hit her girlfriend.
Butt and Mukhtar allegedly stopped beating the women when a crowd began to gather.
One of the victims claims her assailant had a knife about 3 inches long and was "opened manually."
Butt and Mukhtar were apprehended by Agawam Police. Mukhtar was released on $1,000 bail. Butt is being held without bail for a 2014 assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge. She is due back in court in September.
