A new article from Fortune reports that Hinge is seeing large spikes in gay men signing up for the service. This comes on the heels of Mayor Pete Buttigieg becoming a household name and his marriage to husband Chasten capturing the public eye. The couple have openly shared the story of their meeting on the dating app Hinge.

"After reading about Mayor Pete and Chasten, I realized that it's finally time for me. They are the most visible gay couple out there, and they're adorable. I heard they met on [dating app] Hinge so I downloaded it," activist Michael Crawford told The New York Post.

Fortune reports that there's been a 30% increase in profiles created by gay men since April 1st, while other demographics have remained mostly stable.

"We're proud of all of the relationships we've helped set up—including Mayor Pete and Chasten!" Hinge founder and CEO Justin McLeod told Fortune. "We're happy to see that their love story has inspired even more members of the LGBTQ community to find their person on Hinge."

Crawford went on to say that he found Mayor Pete and Chasten's story to be inspiring and good for the LGBTQ community. "It's about time that we can have a [gay] couple like Mayor Pete and Chasten who are refreshingly boring."
