'One Magical Weekend' Canceled for 2020

The annual "One Magical Weekend" event that brings LGTBQ revelers to Orlando from around the world has been canceled for 2020, organizers of the event said in a release.

"We have been forging ahead with cautious optimism over the past several weeks planning for a very special One Magical Weekend and 30th Anniversary of 'Gay Disney' at Walt Disney World Resorts," an email notice from the OMW organizers said.

However, the release adds, "Due to the continuing escalation with no crest in sight, we regretfully inform you that One Magical Weekend - Homecoming will not be held during the first weekend of June in 2020. Instead, One Magical Weekend will be postponed until June 3-7, 2021."

The text - which also appears at the OMW website - notes that "Like every one of you, we find ourselves in uncharted territory dealing with COVID-19. The entire world has been turned upside down in what seems like just a matter of days."

The release informs readers that non-refundable tickets to the event will automatically transfer to next year's event. "Our partners at the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista have been incredible," the release adds. "No worries, your hotel reservation will automatically roll-over to One Magical Weekend 2021. They are easily transferable as well."

Among other additional details, an incentive was extended to those who opt to "keep your current room booking for 2021" - namely, "we are offering 2 additional Therapy Pool Passes for all 3 days - a $210 value."

The release struck a sympathetic - but upbeat - tone:

"For those that were planning on attending for the 1st time or returning for the 30th time, we know this is disappointing.

"We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience.

"Thank you for your support over the past 12 years - we will get through this together!"

More details and contact information are available at the event's website.
