A rapidly escalating travel trend: "mancation."

It's a guys-only leisure excursion that can range from a ski weekend to a trip to the beach. And their popularity is on the rise, says a recent study by the Travel Industry Association.

Last year, more than 37 million US men took mancations, a 2% increase from 2000. The trips were most popular among young men. The study found nearly half of mancationers fall into the 18-34 age range.

Cathy Keefe, a spokeswoman for the Travel Industry Association, said it's common for hotels to roll out special packages to capture "whatever the hot trend of the moment is." Right now it's mancations.

They are not a new concept, said Ms Keefe, but she said they are generating new attention and interest among travelers and within the tourism industry.
