Reports: Male Model, Actor Commits Suicide in Miami

Wednesday June 29, 2016

Male model and actor Jorge Ilich reportedly died after jumping to his death at a Miami Beach high rise apartment building Sunday night, according to a number of reports. He was 26.

Miami's NBC-affiliate news station does not identify him, but reports that police responded to the Flamingo Apartments last week initially thinking someone was pushed off the 7th floor balcony of the complex. Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the incident, with some claiming there was a domestic dispute. But investigators eventually confirmed the man was not pushed by anyone. Police also said the man threatened to kill himself prior to his death.

Though the local station does not name the man, several Spanish-langue news sites report the man is Ilich, who was an actor and model for the underwear company Andrew Christian.

However, Ilich's family says he was in good health and thinks there is a possibility he was murdered.

"We believe it was murder," José Gregorio Navas, Ilich's uncle, told the Nuevo Herald. "There are people who say they heard an argument in the apartment where he lived."

According to FashionablyMale.net, Ilich was born in Venezuela and was a model as well as an actor, appearing in the Venevision soap opera "Heart Esmeralda." In a 2015 interview with the site, Ilich said his character was "very comical" and gay.

"It was [a] very small part and was very funny," he added.

Ilich received a degree in architecture from the University of Santa Maria and started modeling when he was 15 years old. Click here to read the full interview.

"It was a wonderful, humble, focused person," Deborath Tovar, Ilich's niece told the Nuevo Herald. "This is a great loss for the whole family."

Fans of Ilich flocked to Twitter to mourn the model.
