Wednesday March 25, 2020

Has self-isolation led Britney Spears to self-reflection? Is the mega pop star now a socialist? Some say yes, after the singer shared an Instagram post Tuesday that has since gone viral.

Quoting Hong Kong actress Mimi Chu, Spears shared a photo of text that calls for the "redistribution of wealth," "strikes," "unity," and more.

"During this time of isolation, we need connection now more than ever," the post reads. "Call your loved ones, write virtual letters. Technologies like virtual communication, streaming and broadcasting are part of our community collaboration.

"We will learn to kiss and hold each other through the waves of the web. We will feed each other, re-destribute [sic] wealth, strike. We will understand our own importance from the places we must stay. Communion moves beyond walls. We can still be together."

Spears, 38, wrote in the caption: "Communication goes beyond walls," adding three rose emojis.

Zhu responded to Spears sharing her quote via Twitter, saying she was "really grateful"

"At the end of the day I think this is funny and sweet, and I'm happy my work moved her becuz [sic] she moved me a lot while I was growing up — Comrade Britney is an icon and I'm glad we are connected on this wavelength," Zhu tweeted.

The official Instagram account for the Democratic Socialists of America's Los Angeles chapter lauded Spears, sharing her post on its Instagram Stories and urging the "Work Bitch" singer to join the group.

The Daily Mail notes that Spears endorsed Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, posting a photo of them together and adding the hashtag #ImWithHer, however, she hasn't publicly endorsed anyone for the 2020 presidential election.
