A new pro-Trump ad by Log Cabin Republicans has come under fire and has been met with a swift response by GLAAD.

The Log Cabin Republican, featuring openly gay former ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, proclaims Trump as "the most pro-gay President in American history." Without offering any substantial evidence, Grenell offers as his proof that "there are tens of thousands of gay conservatives just like me who also won't be silent."

With the paucity of a pro-gay Trump agenda, Grenell instead focuses his attention on Democratic candidate Joe Biden. Grenell attacks Biden's history of opposition to full LGBTQ equality without accounting for the ways in which the Democratic candidate's positions have evolved over time — such as advocating for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2010, and voicing support for same-sex marriage in 2012, which would come to pass in 2015 with the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.

On a larger level, the Log Cabin Republican ad fails to address that it was under Trump's predecessor, President Barack Obama — and his Vice President, Joe Biden — that LGBTQ Americans acquired more rights that under any previous administration; rights that President Obama's successor has attempted to roll back.

GLAAD has issued an anti-Trump advertisement that attempts to illuminate the ways in which the Trump administration has caused harm to LGBTQ rights. In the ad, a man asks his mother, "ma, do you know that I could be evicted for being gay? Or turned away at the ER?... Donald Trump opposes the bill that would change that." The GLAAD ad will run on FOX during the popular "Fox & Friends" morning show every day this week, as the Republican National Convention takes place.
