Madonna Speaks about the 'Miracle' of Surviving Bacterial Infection

Madonna took a few moments out of her Oct. 21 "Celebration Tour" performance in Belgium to talk about the "miracle" of surviving the bacterial infection that left her hospitalized last summer.

NME detailed that the pop icon "had taken to the stage an hour behind schedule" that night because she was not feeling well.

"Less than four months ago, I was in the hospital and I was unconscious and people were thinking, predicting that I might not make it," Madonna told the crowd.

The superstar's health crisis led to the postponement of the "Celebrations Tour," which originally was intended to launch in June but only got underway earlier this month.

"It's a fucking miracle that I'm here right now," Madge declared. "My mother, god bless her, she must be watching over me. She said, 'Girl, it's not your time to go.'"

The Material Girl went on to add that the experience prompted a sense of understanding for her mother, who passed away when Madonna was only five years old.

"I suddenly had sympathy for my mother, not about the dying part but how lonely she must have felt being in hospital, knowing that she wasn't going to live. And I was given another chance, so I'm very grateful for that."

"I must tell you that I don't feel very well right now," Madonna admitted, "but I can't complain, because I'm alive. Thank god for my children and all of your love and support."
