Into the Dark: 6 Ways to Feature Black in Your Home

Friday Oct 20, 2017

Black accents can add a dramatic twist to just about any room in the house if used strategically. Gina Gutierrez, founder and lead designer of Gina Rachelle Design, shares six pieces and areas of your home that you can incorporate black into, while still maintaining a classy and cozy look.

Instead of being afraid of the dark, here are some areas to consider welcoming black paint into throughout your home:

1. Classic Front Door Entry
Stand out - the front door is peoples first impression of your home.

2. Full Exterior Paint
Go big and paint your whole exterior. You can use a more traditional or neutral paint for the shutters, front door and other exterior fixtures.

3. Statement Wall / Doors / Furniture
Bring a modern and classic touch to your home by using black as an accent. This looks especially good when there is texture, such as over shiplap or beadboard.

4. Modern / Moody Bathroom
If you don't want to go as big as painting a wall, use black tile with a slight contrast of dark grays in the bathroom.

5. Ceilings
Not as harsh as painting an entire wall, but still a statement. Painting the ceiling black makes the space feel cozy and bold.

6. Contrast Trim
Risky, but always pays off.
