PopUps: Justin Bieber Faces Cultural Appropriation Backlash Over Hairstyle...Again

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

A social media backlash over Justin Bieber's new hairstyle is in full throttle, with many accusing the "Sorry" singer of cultural appropriation, marking the second time he's faced a hair related outcry, CNN reports.

Bieber took to Instagram earlier this week and debuted his newest hairstyle, showing off his short dreadlocks and it didn't take long for people to voice their outrage online, accusing the Canadian pop star of cultural appropriation and racial insensitive.

"Dreadlocks are traditionally connected to the culture and identities of Black people, and wearing them is viewed by some as cultural appropriation. On social media some Black women called Bieber's hairstyle offensive and disrespectful and urged him to change it and apologize," CNN writes. "Others defended him, saying he can wear his hair the way he wants."

Over the last few days, Bieber has posted a number of pics of himself with his hair and shared posts and vids to his Instagram Stories.

Back in 2016, Bieber came under fire for sporting dreadlocks. Before that, he got heat for sporting cornrows. Click here to read more about that.

In the last year, the singer has been vocal about his support for the Black Lives Matter Movement but caught some heat with the release of his latest album "Justice" for a track called "MLK Interlude," which features nearly two minutes of a speech by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Bieber hasn't directly responded to the latest outcry over his hair.
