Alien Outpost
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
The disappointing new Scream Factory feature film Blu-ray "Alien Outpost" assumes that audiences want to sit through a dialogue-driven science fiction movie. It's not that loud drivel and over-the-top special effects are preferable; but this IFC Midnight film presents barely just one alien invasion sequence hinted at in the title.
In the not too distant future, six years ahead in 2021, aliens have come and gone and created the First Earth War (or FEW as the title cards constantly refer to it as). It seems those dastardly aliens weren't completely defeated and alien outpost bases were created to battle the creatures.
Like scads of other horror and recent science fiction films, "Alien Outpost" has a documentary-style to it, as a crew gets sent to Outpost Three Seven. This is where the film bogs itself down with overused interview segments with various alien soldiers. Ho-hum.
In the end, "Alien Outpost" might've been better suited as a war feature film. But it does look mighty fine in a bright and vivid Blu-ray presentation. Special features on Scream Factory's Blu-ray are a bit barren: there are the requisite interviews with cast and crew, deleted scenes, and the theatrical trailer. An audio commentary by director Jabbar Raisani and director of photography Blake Clifton can heard also. But these supplements aren't enough to warrant a purchase in this quite rare non-recommended Blu-ray from the Shout Factory catalog.
