All We Need
Grace Harrison READ TIME: 1 MIN.
The artist Raury truly doesn't fit a specific musical genre. A quick google search finds him pegged as "Hip-hop," "folk-rock," "independent" and even "soul." His latest album "All We Need" certainly solidifies that. If you listen carefully, you might be able to find more styles. The way Raury brings all of these genres together is brilliant.
The first (and title track) "All We Need" begins with electric keyboards giving it an immediate hip-hop feel and then we hear Raury sing a few lines in a dreamy voice. The second song (Revolution) is a lot faster in comparison to the first and features exciting acoustic guitar work and hand drumming. Backup vocals follow making his voice even more powerful.
His songs "Forbidden Knowledge," "Peace Prevail" and "Love Is Not a Four Letter Word" fit into the "rap" category and contain mellow beats, a calm flow and palpable emotion.
For a more romantic vibe, tune to "Her" and "CPU"; perfect songs for driving around at 2:00 a.m. clearing your head and thinking of the one you love.
In closing, Maury's album may not be for everyone but, with a variety of genres presented, it certainly has enough diversity to please even the pickiest of listeners. Preview the songs on iTunes and download your favorite beats.
