Man Who Accused 'X-Men' Director of Sexual Assault Sentenced to Prison
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
The man who accused "X-Men" director Bryan Singer of sexually assaulting him when he was a teenager was recently sentenced to two years in prison for fraud, TMZ reports.
Michael Egan was convicted of securities fraud, according to the celebrity news website.
Egan, a former child model and aspiring actor, filed a federal lawsuit against Singer in Hawaii in April 2014. He claimed he was forced into sex parties in California and in Hawaii when he was 17 in the late 90s, the Associated Press reported at the time.
"It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan's new movie is about to open in a few weeks," Singer's attorney, Marty Singer, who said he is not related to the director, said last year.
Egan's lawsuit claims he was lured into sex with promises of auditions for acting, modeling and commercial jobs. Egan claims he was paid as an actor for a digital entertainment company but was forced to have sex with adult men at parties within Hollywood's entertainment industry. According to the suit, Bryan Singer attended a number of the events and forced Egan into sex, giving him drugs and threatened Egan when he resisted. It does not accuse the director of luring Egan into the ring, the AP reports.
BuzzFeed reported in December 2014 Egan was indicted for wire and securities fraud in a federal court in North Carolina. According to the criminal indictment filed on Dec. 16, 2014, in the U.S. District Court in Charlotte, Egan fraudulently induced victims to invest money for businesses like holiday-themed attractions and television shows.
"Instead of using the money as agreed upon, and repaying the investment, Egan stole a majority of the money to fund his lifestyle," the indictment reads.
As TMZ notes, Egan's lawsuit against Singer was dismissed.
