READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Hollywood star Angie Dickinson braved the Los Angeles rain on Thursday (13 April) at the TCL Chinese Theater for the TCM Classic Film Festival's opening night.
Dickinson was present for a 4K restoration premiere of her 1959 film "Rio Bravo's" where she starred alongside John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson. She still remembers how relaxed Wayne was between takes as she would receive notes from director Howard Hawks.
"Duke knew he could just sit back and wait for him to finish with me because I needed quite a bit of help. And he was wonderful," she said.
In the film's trailer, a young Ricky Nelson introduces Dickinson as "the new girl Angie." When Dickinson reflects on how much she has accomplished since this role, she says she never expected it to give her so much.
"I knew it was a big moment in my career, but I didn't expect anything like how lucky I got," said the actor.
"Rio Bravo" won Dickinson a Golden Globe nomination in 1960 for New Star of the Year-Actress, but it was her role as Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson on "Police Woman" that made her a household name.
"It's comforting because it was a big hunk out of my life, of pleasure," said Dickinson. "So, it was an awful lot of work away from my family a lot. But it paid off, and it was worth it."
'Rio Bravo' was not the only film screening at the TCM Classic Film Festival on Thursday night. The festival, which aims to gather movie lovers to celebrate classic movies, also screened "Hairspray," "Shadow of a Doubt," and more classic fan-favorite films.
Ricki Lake, Tom Berenger, Shari Belafonte, Amy Irving, Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson were also in attendance. The TCM Film Festival runs from April 13-16.
