The Binding
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Anytime a horror film uses religion as its central theme, it can be a hard sell. And let's face it, folks: Nothing will ever top the granddaddy of all religious-tinged horror movies, otherwise known as "The Exorcist." Try as hard as it may, Shout Factory's new Blu-ray "The Binding" just doesn't rise to the challenge.
"The Binding" takes it source material from the story of Abraham in the Holy Bible (seen as separate chapters in the film as Revelation and The Binding). Sarah (Amy Gumenick), a young minster's wife, struggles with her husband's seemingly erratic behavior, marred by drug and alcohol abuse.
Bramwell (Josh Heisler) claims he was visited by God and told to kill his newborn daughter, all in the name of saving the world. Sarah thinks hubby has gone cuckoo and sends him off to therapy, only to discover that there's nothing wrong with him.
So "The Binding" ends up being a rather talky film, as Sarah tries to uncover just really what is going on with Bramwell. And just when you thought it was safe to come out of a horror/religion film unscathed, yet another film ending with an exorcism is presented to the audience (Spoiler Alert!). It's all a rather non-bloody affair, and the viewer is left wondering: Will the filmmakers actually go there and kill an infant?
You'll have to see for yourself, if you decide to purchase Scream Factory's "The Binding" Blu-ray. There's quite an extensive array of extras on hand, too:
