Read Frank Ocean's Moving Poem 'Boyfriend'
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
The last few days have been big for Frank Ocean fans, who have waited since 2012 for the R&B singer to follow up his debut album, "Channel Orange."
Over the weekend, Ocean dropped two pieces of music, a visual album called "Endless" and a proper new LP called "Blond." In addition to that, the "Pyramids" singer published a limited-edition zine called "Boys Don't Cry," which features a number of essays and poems from Ocean (and other artists like Kanye West, who penned a love letter to McDonald's).
One of Ocean's pieces is called "Boyfriend," where he "beautifully considers the idea of a male partner through both a personal and societal lens," Vulture writes.
In the poem, Ocean reportedly writes:
"I could say that I'm happy they let me and my boyfriend become married. But cross my heart I didn't notice. Hope to die no never, we voted."
Before he released "Boys Don't Cry" to the public, Ocean took to his popular Tumblr feed (the same blog where he rocked the music world in 2012 and opened up about his sexuality a day before "Channel Orange" dropped), and posted a two-page spread from the zine.
The piece is about his obsession with car culture and how it fits in with his sexuality. In the essay, Ocean recalls when fashion designer Raf Simons accuses the singer of his car fantasy being a "a deep subconscious straight boy fantasy." Ocean responds to Simons by writing, "Consciously though, I don't want straight - a little bent is good."
