Courtney Act and Vanity Invite Everyone to Celebrate World Wig Week
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
International drag queens Courtney Act and Vanity are celebrating this week's World Wig Week by awarding two lucky squirrel friends their berRiah, the sickest lace-front wig ever from WigsByVanity.com. The name comes from the gay slang language, Polari: ber meaning ultimate and Riah is hair spelled backwards.
Additionally,WigsByVanity.com, is offering a 20 percent discount store wide during the week long celebration. "berRiahs are the best way to step your pussy up all year round, but especially during the high wig holy days," declares Courtney Act, who joins Vanity in the company's new commercial releasing this week. Written by Act, Our Lady J and Joe Crowe, the WigsByVanity.com jingle is available on iTunes now.
WigsbyVanity.com is preferred by many of the world's top drag queens, cross dressers, and cosplayers. It is also regularly used in live theatre and events around the world, including Marco Marco's upcoming fashion show in Los Angeles on October 21.
While traditional wigs are made for smaller female heads, Vanity and Courtney design their wigs specifically for drag. WigsByVanity.com are larger in size, with fuller, more fabulous hair that is in perfect proportion to match a man's hair line.
RuPaul is often seen wearing locks by WigsByVanity.com. There is even a color in the collection called "The Shade Of RuPaul" that was created by matching hair from one of Ru's original lace fronts.
Vanity and Courtney began WigsByVanity.com in 2003, largely inspired by Rupaul's flawless lace-front wigs and their inability to find such wigs at a reasonable price for themselves.
Vanity, a master wig stylist, taught herself to hand-knot hair strand-by-strand. The pair the traveled to the provinces of China to meet with manufacturing experts in the wig field to develop a hybrid of the traditional "machine-made" wig and the handmade custom lace-front hairline, creating the first one-size-fits-most wig for under $1000.
Today, mass produced wigs can be found online, but none bear the craftsmanship of the hand-tied berRiah by WigsByVanity.com. It is why many of the wigs seen on RuPaul's Drag Race today are designed by Vanity and Courtney.
Bianca Del Rio is a fan of their brand. "If you want fabulous hair like mine, go to WigsByVanity.com. It's the best! Shit looks real!" she says.
Alaska Thunderfuck, Katya Zamolodchikova and William Belli are also often seen in berRiahs. Alaska most enjoys the Classic Vanity in Illegally Blonde "because its icy hue and rich fullness mirror my natural hair's own color and beauty."
Willam says she'll be wearing the Courtney berRiah to celebrate World Wig Week, "because it's clean and I don't have to brush it."
Katya prefers the Marie in Illegally Blonde for its high quality and manageable length. "It provides me the versatility to confidently assert my right to speak with the manager at Chico's while living my lifelong dream of impersonating a lesbian art dealer from West Germany."
"Every wigs life begins in a bag but what happens once it's been removed is where the magic lies," explains Vanity. "A queen must form a symbiotic relationship with her new wig and allow her character to be absorbed. Then it's just a matter of finding the perfect balance of listening to what the wig wants to do and telling it what to do."
"It's like a queen wearing a crown," she continues. "They become one. A drag queen can exist without a wig, but an amazing wig is nothing without a drag queen."
