Frank Oceans' New Albums Won't Win Any Grammys
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Frank Ocean returned this year in a big way, releasing two pieces of music, "Blonde" and the visual album "Endless."
His new tunes received a lot of buzz and earned praise from music critics, but the R&B singer's albums won't be winning any Grammy awards.
That's because they've become ineligible this year because they were not submitted for consideration, according to Billboard.
The eligibility cut-off date for the 2017 Grammys was Sept. 30; "Blonde" dropped Aug. 20 and "Endless" Aug. 12, making both records eligible for the Grammys. A rep for the Grammys confirmed to Billboard that Ocean's albums were not submitted.
Pitchfork points to the Grammy website, which says the Recording Academy "accepts entries online from its members and registered media companies."
Ocean was up for a number of Grammy awards back in 2013. His debut studio album "Channel Orange" earned an Album of the Year nod but lost to Mumford & Sons' "Babel." However, his record did win Best Urban Contemporary Album that year. His single "Thinkin Bout You" was also nominated for Record of the Year but did not win.
Ocean did win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "No Church in the Wild," a song with Kanye West and Jay Z. He was also up for Best New Artist in 2013 but lost to the band fun.
