Rap Group Migos Say Rapper iLoveMakonnen's Coming Out was 'Wack'

Last month, rapper iLoveMakonnen made headlines when he came out as gay on Twitter. After his announcement, the Atlanta musician received lots of support from fans but the critically lauded rap trio Migos seem to share a different opinion, as expressed in their profile piece with Rolling Stone.
Pitchfork points out Rolling Stone writer Jonah Weiner brings up Makonnen's coming out after Migos member Quavo says he's proud of Atlanta's "diversity." (Migos also hail from Georgia's capital city.) Weiner writes things turned into "an awkward interlude" with Quavo shouting, "Damn, Makonnen!" Fellow Migos members Offset and Takeoff also chime in.
I mention support I saw online for Makonnen's decision. "They supported him?" Quavo asks, raising an eyebrow. "That's because the world is fucked up," says Offset. "This world is not right," Takeoff says. "We ain't saying it's nothing wrong with the gays," says Quavo. But he suggests that Makonnen's sexuality undermines his credibility, given the fact that "he first came out talking about trapping and selling Molly, doing all that."
He frowns. "That's wack, bro."
Stereogum notes Migos appeared on Makonnen's 2015 track "Whip It (Remix)" with writer Tom Brelhan noting, "The idea that gay people cannot sell drugs is a weird one."
Migos' new album "Culture" went to No. 1 this week on Billboard's 200 albums chart. The group's viral hit single "Bad and Boujee" peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 last month -- about two weeks after actor Donald Glover shouted out the song during his Golden Globes' acceptance speech for his show "Atlanta."
