A father from the U.K. who was found guilty of raping his lesbian daughter to prove "sex was better with men" was sentenced to 21 years in jail this week, according to the Independent.

The 54-year-old man carried out the sexual assault on his 16-year-old daughter after she told him she was struggling with her sexuality. He responded with "uncontrolled" anger, a Warwick Crown Court heard. The father also allegedly abused two of his other daughters over the course of two decades.

"As a 16-year-old girl she realized she was gay and struggling with her identity as many people do at that age, she decided to tell you," Judge Lockhart said, according to a report from Pink News. "You reacted by showing real and uncontrolled anger, and you decided to rape her to show her why it would be better to have sex with men than women. Her evidence made harrowing listening."

"The offense demonstrated your hostility towards her as a lesbian," the judge added. Lockhart said the victim's evidence was "harrowing" and said the father's actions were proof of "hostility" towards her sexuality.

"That rape involved degradation and humiliation. The offense demonstrated your hostility towards her as a lesbian," the judge said, according to Pink News.

The identities of the man and daughter have been kept anonymous in order to protect the victim

The father was found guilty on three charges of rape, one charge of indecency with a child during the 80s and 90s, and nine charges of indecent assault.

A spokesman for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children said the victims were courageous.

"The victims in this horrific case have shown incredible courage to speak out and ensure this evil abuser is brought to justice. It is vital they now receive the support they need to attempt to move forward with their lives," the spokesman told Pink News. "This case shows that survivors of abuse will be listened to, no matter how long ago it happened or who the abuser was. They do not need to suffer in silence."
