Report: Aaron Hernandez Killed to Hide Bisexuality

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

A new report from Newsweek published Friday alleges former NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who took his own life in prison last week, may have been bisexual and that his sexuality was his motive for killing friend Odin Lloyd.

The in-depth Newsweek report was published the same day the U.K. tabloid the Daily Mail reported sources close to Hernandez's case revealed the ex-New England Patriots tight end left three suicide notes: one for his fiancee, another for his daughter and a third for a "gay prison lover."

Newsweek's report also claims Hernandez, 27, penned three notes, including a message to a "close prison friend" before hanging himself in his Massachusetts prison cell last week. The magazine later refers to the prison friend as Hernandez's "prison boyfriend" and says "multiple law enforcement sources confirm" the man is currently on "24/7 suicide watch."

Hernandez's suicide came less than a week after he was acquitted of murdering two Boston men in 2012. He was previously serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Lloyd, a semi-pro football player who was dating Hernandez's fiancee's sister.

Newsweek also alleges Hernandez may have killed Lloyd because he "had information the football star did not want out: that he was bisexual."

"Hernandez's sexuality would, of course, not be relevant save for the fact that an intimate relationship he allegedly had with a male former high school classmate was at the center of the investigation into Lloyd's murder," Newsweek writes.

The publication also writes the athlete's "alleged longtime male lover, the high school friend, was interviewed extensively by authorities after Lloyd's murder, and was forced to testify in front of a grand jury." Newsweek adds Hernandez moved large sums of money into an account for the man before he was arrested of killing Lloyd.
