Is Milo Yiannopoulos Plotting a Comeback?

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

It's been a bumpy 2017 for openly gay provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos: After appearing on Bill Maher's talkshow, an audio recording surfaced where Yiannopoulos appeared to endorse gay sex with mature children as young as 13. As a result, many conservatives bailed on Yiannopoulos, who also lost a $250,000 book deal and a keynote address at CPAC. He then left his job as an editor at Brietbart News and has been out of the spotlight since.

But The Hollywood Reporter notes that might change as Yiannopoulos took to Facebook Friday, claiming he will hold an event at UC Berkeley.

"In light of recent controversies, I am planning a huge multi-day event called Milo's Free Speech Week in Berkeley later this year. We will hold talks and rallies and throw massive parties, all in the name of free expression," he wrote.

THR writes: "Yiannopoulos wouldn't say who is backing the effort, financially or otherwise, nor would he say which, if any, student group has invited him to speak at Berkeley."

Sources told THR he plans to reinvent himself after mainstream conservatives stopped supporting him due to the controversial recordings.

"I will bring activists, writers, artists, politicians, YouTubers, veterans and drag queens from across the ideological spectrum to lecture, march and party," Yiannopoulos wrote on Facebook. "I intend to return Berkeley to its rightful place as the home of free speech - whether university administrators and violent far-left Antifa thugs like it or not."

He did not give a specific date as to when the Berkeley event will take place but did say it would be later this year. He also did allude to a "Cinco de Milo" event on May 5 and other plans he has for a "grand comeback tour." He also changed his Facebook profile picture to the date 5-5-2017.

Yiannopoulos sparked controversy and riots when he was scheduled to speak at Berkeley in February, with protesters setting fires, throwing rocks and attacking fans. Authorities were forced to shut down the event.

The college finds itself in a similar situation as ultra conservative troll Ann Coulter attempts to speak Thursday - even though administrators told her she wasn't allowed to do so and moved the event to a different venue.
