Frank Ocean Responds to Father's $14.5M Lawsuit Over Alleged Gay, Trans Slur

Frank Ocean is responding to a $14.5 million lawsuit filed by his own father, Pitchfork reports.

Earlier this year it was reported Calvin Cooskey is suing is son for libel over a Tumblr post Ocean made reflecting on the Pulse gay club shooting in Orlando last summer. In his note, the "Pyramids" singer recalled a time where his father allegedly used a gay slur towards a transgender waitress.

"I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn't be served because she was dirty," Ocean wrote at the time.

In his lengthy complaint, Cooskey claims Ocean "published these falsehoods" "for the financial success of Defendant's new album 'Blonde,' and to ruin his father." Pitchfork points out Cooskey also called Ocean's friend, rapper Tyler, the Creator, a "devil worshiper."

TMZ now reports Ocean and his lawyers are not responding to Cooskey's lawsuit. The R&B star doesn't deny anything he wrote in his initial Tumblr post last year, saying his essay "speaks for itself."

Pitchfork obtained court documents, where Ocean denies most of his father's allegations, adding they're "statements of opinion, and thus not the proper subjects of a libel claim." He also argues the complaint is barred by applicable statues of limitations.

Ocean also asks the court to dismiss the suit and order his father to pay his legal fees.
