After two seasons, ABC announced Thursday it canceled its Dan Savaged-produced sitcom "The Real O'Neals," Deadline reports.

Even though the network ordered three more episodes for Season 2 back in November, Deadline writes "due to its sluggish ratings" in its second season, ABC decided to pull the plug on the series. TVLine pints out "The Real O'Neals" was the lowest-watched comedy in March.

The sitcom inspired by Dan Savage featured actor Noah Galvin as gay teen Kenny, who comes out to his Catholic family, sending them into a tizzy.

Galvin caused some off-screen controversy when he gave an interview with Vulture last year where he made disparaging comments to "X-Men" director Bryan Singer and took aim at actors Colton Haynes and "Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet. He later apologized to the LGBTQ community.
