A transgender Texan was shot to death Saturday, becoming the 17th known trans person to be murdered in the U.S. this year.

Gwynevere River Song, 26, who uses gender neutral pronouns, died at their Waxahachie, Texas home after an argument turned violent, according to local newspaper the Daily Light.

Song, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and another adult who has yet to be identified, got into the altercation around 5 p.m. Saturday. The adult, who was male, was also injured during the incident and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Officials from the Ellis County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident.

Song was a 2015 graduate of the University of Texas, where they studied radiation physics. According to the blog PGH Lesbian Correspondents, Songs identified as "femadrogyne" and bisexual. The blog also reports a memorial vigil is being planned for next week.

It was reported earlier this week that there's been more LGBTQ-related murders so far this year than all of 2016.
