Preacher - Season Two

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The AMC network thankfully renewed one of the most bizarre yet gratifying horror series to ever grace the small screen. "Preacher: Season Two" ups the ante in all areas of the show and makes the sophomore season its best one yet.

"Preacher" combines elements of science fiction, horror, comedy, westerns, and plain old-fashioned thrillers all into one bag. The title character, Jesse (Dominic Cooper), goes on the run at the end of the first season after the small Texan town he lives in gets destroyed.

Ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) are along for the ride again this time around. They all end up in New Orleans on their mission to find God. Numerous hilarious and bloody shenanigans occur to this small band of outlaws and in season two, the audience gets to learn about Jessie's criminal past a bit more. The Saint of Killers character pops up in a few spine-tingling episodes, who happens to be a cowboy from Hell with murderous intentions.

Also happening in "Preacher: Season Two" are origin stories of how Jesse and Tulip met.

"Preacher" bases its episodes from a series of horror graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. And graphic is how to describe most of season 2, as it features lots of bloody gunfights and fistfights which are quite enjoyable.

Thirteen episodes span 4 discs on Sony Pictures Blu-ray package but only two special features get tacked onto the box set:

"Raising the Stake: Action on Set" - a quick behind-the-scenes look at how season two features more graphic blood and gore that the prior season

"Gag Reel" - a brief featurette that shows some fun moments that were left on the cutting room floor
