MTV's Dating Show 'Are You the One?' Reveals All Sexually Fluid Cast
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
The eighth season of the popular MTV reality dating show "Are You the One?" returns next with a huge twist. The network revealed this week that the entire cast of 16 contestants looking for love are sexually fluid.
For those who don't watch, here's how "Are You the One" works:
A group of men and women are secretly paired into male-female couples by producers, via a matchmaking algorithm. Then, while living together, the contestants try to identify all of these "perfect matches." If they succeed, the entire group shares a prize of up to $1 million. Over the course of each season, the contestants have the opportunity to pair up in different combinations to compete against each other to win dates, as well as the opportunity to learn in the "truth booth" if a given couple is a correct match. At the end of each episode, the contestants pair up in a "matching ceremony" and learn how many perfect matches they have, but not which matches are correct.
The first seven seasons of the reality show have only featured straight people matching up. But Season 8 allows for same-sex matches.
Host Terrence J will return and the new season will also feature Dr. Frankie, a relationship expert who focuses on working with LGBTQ+ people. MTV writes Dr. Frankie "will work with the singles to help them become better daters and navigate between drama, poor choices and recurring patterns in relationships."
