These pups have ambition!

Our four-legged friends make more than just wonderful companions; many of them have a greater purpose and aspire to bring more than just emotional comfort. In the new documentary series "Pick of the Litter," streaming on the Disney+ subscription service, you're invited to follow the lives of six very special puppies who are fulfilling the needs of others as service dogs in league to become part of guide dogs for the blind. It's a fascinating look from start to finish, on an emotionally fulfilling journey.

The documentary follows the lives of six pups as they are placed with their "first families" and take the first steps to socialization and the various tasks necessary to complete advancement to the next level. It's as trying a situation for the puppy raiser families as it is for the pups, who are basically bred for success. For the puppy raisers, in most cases, they are proud of helping the pups prepare for their formal training, but it is often bittersweet as the families that hosted the pups since they were weeks old must say good bye.

The pups begin the tasks necessary to make them valuable in the field as official guide dogs for the blind. The documentarians, through no trickery of their own, are able to convey how equally emotionally this exercise is for the young pups, as it is expressed through the experience of their human companion. It's an incredibly touching journey, and one that every member of the family can rally around, especially since the ultimate goal is for the dogs to be placed with a physically challenged individual who will get a whole new companion to share their life with.

Disney+ continues to provide excellent original content on its steaming service that are worthwhile sharing with the entire family, as well as provide a unique perspective on an existing human condition that although may not be a part of one's own every day experience, it's important to understand. "Pick of the Litter" the Original Documentary Series will be available for streaming on Dec 20 and the first episode "Meet the Dogs" appropriately introduces the six winning contenders who are preparing for a life of greater purpose through compassion.
