A "True Blood" reboot is in the works, according to Variety .

Apparently still in the early stages of development, Alan Ball, the original show's creator is attached to executive produce, while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Glee" and HBO's "Big Love") and Jami O'Brien ("Fear of the Walking Dead" and HBO's "Big Love") will serve as script writers as well as executive producing with Ball. None of the original cast are slated to return.

Based on "The Southern Vampire Mysteries," a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, "True Blood" ran from 2008 to 2014 on HBO. The show was set in the American South and combined elements of fantasy – werewolves, witches and vampires lived among and interacted with humans. With the creations of synthetic blood, "true blood," vampires could stop feeding on humans. The romantic relationship between the telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin) and vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) was at the center of the show's storyline.

The show also featured Australian heartthrob Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Sookie's dumb but well-meaning and rapaciously philandering brother; and Alexander Skarsgrd as salacious vampire Eric Northman who, alongside Bill Compton, vied for Sookie's attention. The always-magnificent Carrie Preston portrayed Arlene Fowler, Sookie's co-worker and friend.

"True Blood" also featured a handful of queer-themed storylines and characters. The late Nelsan Ellis, who unfortunately died in 2017, played the witty and unabashedly gay Lafayette Reynolds. Lafayette's relationship with Jesus Velasquez (played by Kevin Alejandro) was a prominent feature of seasons 3-5.
