In an area boasting one of the largest numbers of gay residents in the country, how do you present an advocacy message with an impact beyond that of facts murmured behind a podium?

Since the inception of the Impulse Fort Lauderdale Chapter in 2013, followed by its expansion to incorporate all of South Florida this year, the newly renamed Impulse Group South Florida has prided itself on bold, thought provoking and innovative forms of HIV prevention-targeted advocacy and marketing that does just that.

Impulse Group South Florida's newest event, "i am," takes place at the renowned Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on September 13, 2014 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m., and promises to present an advocacy message that will capture guests like never before. In what will be their most powerful event yet, audio and visual elements will immerse guests into six intimate, compelling, and real stories of men and women of all walks of life, within or supporting the gay HIV positive and negative community.

"The more we talk about HIV and speak freely, the more we empower others to do the same. We're a community regardless. It is not ok to segregate or discriminate and the only way we are going to break through that is by talking about it," says A.J. Alegria, Impulse Group South Florida President.

At "i am," Impulse Group South Florida invites its guests to a cocktail reception complete with signature mixed drinks, open bar, hors d'oeuvres and music by DJ Misha. Members and advocates of the gay community will meet and interact before being presented with the main attraction: a mix of visual components, music, and advocacy that will move them as it challenges the way they look at HIV awareness and prevention. The audience will be impacted by powerful and true stories that provide a broadened understanding of how HIV affects everyone.
