Gay San Jose City Councilmember Anthony Tordillos took his oath of office Tuesday, returning out leadership to the governing body of the Bay Area’s largest city. He thanked “everyone who helped me get to this point” at the August 12 meeting, including his family members.

“This is an immense honor and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly,” said Tordillos, who had chaired the city’s planning commission until winning the special election earlier this summer for the council’s District 3 seat centered around downtown San Jose. “I am looking forward to serving the people of our city.”

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan had welcomed Tordillos to the council dais, saying, “I know we are all going to be better for it.”
