My Girl

To call the 1991 movie "My Girl" a "classic" would be reaching, but the family friendly film (which features a still adorably "Home Alone" cute Macaulay Culkin and introduced Anna Chlumsky) still stands as one of the most authentically genuine coming-of-age stories that tops many film favorite lists. Now restored for the first time in full 4K HD, the film is presented in vivid expanded color for a maximum screen experience on Blu-ray and Digital HD.

Also starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd, "My Girl" captured the hearts of movie goers everywhere and transformed the careers of its child stars. It stands as one of the most charming and eloquent journeys, as the larger than life 11-year-old Vada Sultenfuss (Chlumsky) -- obsessed with her own mortality partly because her father (Aykroyd) runs a funeral parlor and her mother died while giving birth to her -- finds her way.

Vada is rebellious at heart, is teased by the other girls at school, and soon falls for the "boy next door," Thomas J., played by Culkin. Together they share the incredible first experiences leading out of childhood into adolescence, and into the often harsh truths of adulthood.

It's in Vada's openness and incredibly unique perspective of things that she is able to bring about a joy into the lives of the those around her, especially Thomas J., who begins to idolize the very free spirited young lady. Both Curtis and Aykroyd are side-lined by the pre-teen performers, but their own love story is also beautifully evolved. This film is a lesson in love for the entire family.

Along with the pristine film remastering to HD, this Blu-ray package includes commentary with the film's writer Laurice Elehwany that enthusiastically inspires a new perspective on "My Girl" nearly 25 years later. Brand new bonus features also take the audience behind-the-scenes on the set for two of the movie's most crucial moments, including that first kiss. Included in the package as well is the original film's featurette with cast interviews, including its stars as they appeared in 1991.
