Watch: 'Love, Simon' TV Spinoff 'Love, Victor' Gets Steamy Trailer, Air Date on Hulu
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Hulu is sharing the first look at "Love, Victor," the new spinoff TV show of the gay teen rom-com "Love, Simon," as well as an official air date.
The clip follows Victor (Michael Cimino), a new student at Creekwood High School (the same school that Simon attends) and finds actor Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the film, narrating the video. It also shows Victor applying for a job at a coffee shop where he talks with hunky classmate Benji (George Sear), who is an instant manager, as things begin to heat up.
Hulu also revealed that "Love, Victor" will hit the streaming platform on June 19 in time for LGBTQ Pride Month.
The company previously shared a synopsis of the series:
Set in the world of the 2018 groundbreaking film "Love, Simon," which was inspired by Becky Albertalli's acclaimed novel, "Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda," the series follows Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School on his journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school.
"Love, Victor" made headlines earlier this year when it was announced Disney+ would no longer host the show, handing it off to Hulu, which Disney also owns. Though the company never officially explained the move, it's understood that the show will feature a number of issues like sexual exploration and alcohol use that doesn't fit the family-friendly brand of Disney+.
"With Hulu now an integral part of our streaming family, our teams are closely collaborating and we have the unique ability to choose the best home for our original productions," said Ricky Strauss, Disney+'s president of content and marketing, at the time. "All of us at Disney+ are incredibly proud of 'Love, Victor' and know the series will be a perfect addition to Hulu's strong slate of young adult programming."
In other "Love, Simon" news, Becky Albertalli, the author of the book series the film is based on, recently announced a new installment in her series.
