Los Angeles fashion designer Jonny Cota was recently crowned the first winner of Amazon's competition show "Making the Cut" and opened up about his victory in a new interview with the Daily Mail.

"I just I almost fell to my knees," said Cota, 35, recalling how he felt when he found out he was the show's winner. "I was just so, 'Oh, wow.' You know, we've worked so hard for so long and to be [able] to get that validation from the judges, it just felt huge."

Along with the title, Cota also scored a $1 million prize that he can invest in his brand. He also earned a one-year mentorship with the Amazon Fashion team. On top of that, his collection Jonny Cota Studio will be sold exclusively in Amazon's Fashion store.

"I mean, it still hasn't really sunk in yet," he told the Daily Mail of his win.

Cota also offered some style advice for those in quarantine who still want to show off their fashion while at home.

"You know, put on pants that don't always have an elastic waistband," he told the Daily Mail. "Maybe wear your jacket if you're a little chilly.

"For me, it affects my mood tremendously," Cota added. "If you're not doing it yet, I promise you, it will make you feel more optimistic about everything that's happening around you."

"Making the Cut," hosted by model Heidi Klum and fashion expert Tim Gunn, debuted on Amazon Prime last month and follows 12 designers who face challenges and assignments to test their abilities an artist and businessperson. The full first season is now available to stream.
