Watch: 'American Idol' Judges Save Drag Queen Ada Vox from Being Voted Off
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
It was a close call for "American Idol" contestant drag queen Ada Vox.
Fans voted in the top 10 singers on the reality show Monday but left out Ada, who has been slaying the competition. Nevertheless the three "American Idol" judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were not ready to see her leave and in an unexpected move made an "executive decision" to save her and advance her to the top 10.
Ada has been making headlines for her powerhouse performances, and recently received the praise of RuPaul. Her most recent performance from the top 14 was a cover of the "Dream Girls" hit "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," where Ada struggled a bit.
"I wanted to make note that I am aware of my much less than perfect vocal," she wrote in a comment on the YouTube video of her performance. "Not only did my emotions run wild on me, but before the show, I had an allergic reaction to our lunch which made my tongue and throat swell up almost immediately."
Nevertheless, Katy Perry lauded the singer.
"I don't know everything," she told Ada after her performance. "I've got a lot to learn. But I have worked my butt off for over ten years in the spotlight... I do think we know talent when we see it. So I say we would like to make an executive decision right now."
Perry then pointed to where the singers who already made it to the top 10 were sitting, instructing Vox to move there.
"Enough was enough and you put your foot down when it's real," Perry later told People magazine. "We stand for truth and for justice."
