Watch: After Kennedy's Retirement Announcement, Colbert Says 'Enjoy Your Gay Marriages for Now'

In his opening monologue on "The Late Show" this week, host Stephen Colbert commented on Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's recent announcement that he's retiring. During his speech he joked about how it'll impact marriage equality.
"Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he's retiring from the Supreme Court," Colbert said. "I never thought I'd say this but you're only 81. You know what they say, they say 81 is the new 79! And don't tell me your mind's going. Because I've read Bush v. Gore and Citizens United, you never had one!"
He later joked about how Kennedy's retirement will impact same-sex marriage, which was legalized by the high court in the summer of 2015.
"The court that just this week crippled unions, upheld Trump's Muslim ban and race-based gerrymandering might turn conservative," Colbert said, adding, "So enjoy your gay marriages now, because as of August 1st you're back to being roommates."
The late night host also wondered who Trump will nominate to fill in Kennedy's vacant seat.
"I could see Trump appointing Giuliani just to keep him off television," he said.
