Watch: 'Drag Race' Star Pearl Responds Controversial Remarks, Says He's Banned from the Show

"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 7 star Pearl is sharing a YouTube video this week, responding to the reactions caused by an interview he recently gave, in which he made comments about the popular reality show's titular host. In his new video, Pearl claims a producer told him he'd appear on "Drag Race: All-Stars," thanks to his RuPaul remarks.

A moment from Pearl's interview on the YouTube talk show "Hey Qween" went viral earlier this month. In the moment, Pearl is discussing RuPaul, telling host Johnny McGovern about meeting Mama Ru while on "Drag Race."

"I felt like the only way for me to, like, get anywhere on the show was to build some kind of relationship with the judges," Pearl says. "We were filming a segment, just kind of chatting, and then the camera went down for a moment.

"I turned to RuPaul and I said: 'Oh my God, I just want to say thank you so much. It is such an honor to be here, such a pleasure to meet you-you have no idea what this...' just giving her everything I want to say to her," Pearl continues. "And she turned to me and she said: 'Nothing you say matters unless that camera is rolling.' And that broke my spirit."

Pearl said the interaction impacted the way he performed on the show.

"That is the reason why I had one foot in and one foot out the entire time I was on that show," he said. "Maybe that's me being petty, maybe that's me thinking that it should've been something that I should never have expected it to be. But, at that moment, it was like so heartbreaking. Because I idolized her - worshipped her - and I felt like it was just so disrespectful.

"It was just so Hollywood, rotted, like, gross thing," Pearl added. "How could you say that to somebody who is just obsessed with you?'"

Unsurprisingly, Pearl's comments made an impact in the "Drag Race" community and the performer posted a seven-minute YouTube video Thursday, opening up about her "nothing you say matters unless the cameras are rolling" controversy.

In the video, Pearl first takes issue with the media's coverage of her comments, saying the articles he's seen are "incredibly overly traumatized and exaggerated." He then encourages viewers to actually watch the interview.

"...You can see that I was simply trying to open up about something that happened between me and RuPaul that set the standard for the way I behaved on the show," Pearl says. "I was not dragging RuPaul, calling RuPaul names, making fun of her, or spreading lies and vicious rumors."

Pearl goes on to say he didn't think the subject of RuPaul would not come up during his interview on "Hey Qween." He then says he didn't expect his comments in the interview "to blow up so much bigger than it turned out," adding that it's "a lesson learned."

"What I want from all of this is for future contestants to not have the same experience I did," Pearl says of upcoming queens who will appear on "Drag Race."

Later in the video, Pearl thanks his supporters and fans, asking them to "refrain from trolling RuPaul."

"RuPaul is not going to change, she is the kind of person who doesn't really seem to have anything to gain, lose or learn in this world," Pearl adds. "She's kind of this beacon of knowledge; this wealth of knowledge and beacon of hope. It's not like RuPaul is going to call me apologizing, I mean, honestly, if you think anything remotely close to that is going to happen, it absolutely will not happen."

"It's ridiculous even to think of something like that happening, she does not owe me an apology," the drag queen said.

Pearl then takes the time to respond to his haters, who claim he's "biting the hand that feeds me."

"Listen, that's not the only negative experience that I had on set," he confesses. "I've had conversations with multiple queens - off-the-cuff, off-the-record, just me and them - that went through the exact same thing. The reality is if something like this sort of thing happened in any normal work environment where there is a mutual respect or professionalism to be had there would be some major, major, major repercussions for the way she mistreats people on the set.

"And if you want to know the real tea, I had a producer from 'RuPaul's Drag Race' call me after the interview aired and guaranteed me that I will never come back and do 'All-Stars.' " Pearl claims. "I was never dumb enough to think that I would be invited back to 'All-Stars,' and I was definitely not gunning for it at all, but to openly punish me for being honest about a situation that happened with me after four years of silence is disgusting and shameful."

Pearl goes on to say: "This narrative about how we 'Drag Race' contestants owe our lives to 'RuPaul's Drag Race' needs to completely change." He adds that he's now confident that he'd be just as successful in life if he'd never been on the reality show.

"Please stop telling me that I would be nothing without RuPaul, fuck you," he said.
