Cher Drops in on Ellen, Dishes Movie, New Album, and More

Cher appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' show today to talk about a number of things - including her exercise regimen - and preview a track from her upcoming album of ABBA covers.
The singer is also an actress, who brought her vocal chops to the recent "Mamma Mia!" sequel, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again." Like the first installment, the new movie is set on a paradisical Greek island, and is built around ABBA's canon of popular songs.
DeGeneres is openly lesbian, while Cher has a big gay following. That, plus their iconic status as highly successful women in the entertainment industry, made the duo a natural team. Entertainment Weekly detailed how, for part of the episode, the two ventured into a hair salon, where they tried their hands at the cosmetology trade.
In another segment, the two settle in for a discussion and Cher reveals how she ended up starring in "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" - she was essentially drafted by a studio executive, Ron Meyer, who once had been her agent. That role dovetails naturally with Cher's forthcoming album.
Where there's a new album, of course, there are the attendant promotional duties - and Cher spilled the beans on a planned tour named after the film. As Billboard magazine was quick to point out, the "Here We Go Again" tour will be the first one Cher has undertaken since the 2014 "Dressed to Kill" tour. The new tour will commence in January of 2019.
