New trial of HIV vaccine in gay men begins
AIDS researchers have begun recruiting gay men in various American cities for a new HIV vaccine trial they are hopeful will be more successful than a previous vaccine trial that was abruptly aborted in 2007 for fear it was increasing some participants' risk of contracting the virus.

Since the 1960s gay men have staked a claim to the western end of San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, an area of town popularly known as SOMA. In fact, so many gay leather bars, dance clubs, and bathhouses were situated on or near Folsom Street, it earned the nickname the "Miracle Mile" and became a magnet drawing LGBT people the world over to live, work, and play in its former industrial spaces.
