Damages: The Complete Third Season

"Damages" is one of the top dramas on cable for good reason. The third season, now available on DVD, takes the show to new heights with shocking twists, surprising guest stars and stellar writing. Each season focuses on tough-as-nails lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and her frenemy/prot�g� Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) and the case-du-jour of the season.

Season 3 finds Patty going after the Tobin family, the beneficiaries of a Ponzi scheme. Patty must manipulate the law to contend with family matriarch Marilyn (Lily Tomlin), their son Joe (Campbell Scott) and family lawyer Leonard Winstone (Martin Short). This season keeps you on edge beginning with the death of a major character and weaving back and forth through time as the case and mystery unfolds.

The DVD set features some entertaining bonus features. Each episode has an introduction with show creators Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman that offers some insight into the trajectory of the series. There is also a "Directing Damages" featurette that reveals what it was like for creator Todd A. Kessler and star Tate Donovan to be directors on episodes of the show. There are also episode commentaries with Byrne, Short and the creators, deleted scenes and a hilarious blooper reel.

"Damages" is a complex and unique show that is definitely a great purchase. It's also one of the few shows that has bonus features as entertaining as the show itself.
