The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Second Season

"The Vampire Diaries" is television crack. The Complete Second Season, available on DVD, will have you sipping every drop of intrigue, drama and sexual tension. Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) is still caught in a love triangle with the Salvatore Brothers (Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder). She also must contend with her vampire/ancestor/twin Katherine Price. As Katherine raises hell in Mystic Falls, the gang must deal with vampire hunters, werewolves, ancient spells and family secrets.

Fans of the series will enjoy how the world has expanded significantly and included many of the characters of the show. Everyone's character expands to include more of the magic. Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) grows from irritating girl-snob to amazing Buffy-like girl fighter when she joins Elena's world. Bonnie (Katerina Graham) also gets a major magical upgrade.

The DVD includes some deleted scenes that offer additional moments of exposition in the often, complex mythology of the show. There is commentary on one episode by Executive Producers Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec. There is also a hilarious gag reel.

There is a large number of featurettes. One, "Her Own Worst Enemy...Elena, Catherine and Nina!," follows the complexities of Nina Dobrev's performance as Katherine, Elena and the various flashbacks. Another, "The Perfect Love Triangle: Vampires, Werewolves, Witches," has interviews with the cast as they try to decode the various couplings and triangles in the cast. There are also 3 featurettes about the addition of werewolves to the mythos, the transformation effects and the use of wolves during filming.

"The Vampire Diaries" is a must-see series. Between the swapping partners, the devious plotting and shocking dramatic moments what's not to love? The acting is amazing and the plot will have you on edge until you finish watching the entire series.
