Final Destination 5

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.

"Final Destination 5" follows the same pattern as its predecessors: a strong and suspenseful opening, an adorable lead actor, increasingly bizarre murder set pieces, and hokey dialogue. The one nice thing that this hopefully final film in the franchise does is tie back in to the original film from 2000.

Sam (Nicholas D'Agosto) is one of a group of co-workers headed to a corporate event by bus. He has a premonition of the suspension bridge they are driving over coming apart (the most imaginative film opening in the franchise thus far). The group cheats death, as Sam's premonition becomes reality and he quickly races to save everyone's' lives. But as Final Destination series stalwart Tony Todd ominously claims "death can't be cheated" and the rest of the disposable cast tries to survive Death's door.

This fifth installment is as clich as ever and the filmmakers explain how they came up with yet another sequel in the special feature "Circle of Death: Your Final Destination." They decided to make a prequel, yet it isn't realized until the end sequence. "Alternate Death Scenes" don't stray too far from their original death sequences. And two "Visual Effects of Death" features innovatively show how the collapsing bridge and airplane crash scenes were filmed.
