Glee - The Concert
Christian Cintron READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Let's not lie to ourselves. The best part about "Glee" is the elaborate musical numbers to our favorite pop songs. "Glee: The Concert Movie" should be the condensed version of the best parts of the show. Instead, the concert manages to be more convoluted and haphazard than the show. It heavily cuts the concert footage with behind the scenes moments and strange interviews with "Glee" fans.
"Glee: The Concert Movie," was released as a 3D motion picture of the concert that followed the second season. Sadly, the film seems more like a hastily put together marketing ploy. All of the songs are overly edited so you don't even get to enjoy the concert. There is also some strange footage of the cast behind the scenes giving interviews in character. It seems a little strange and unnecessary. However, Gwyneth Paltrow does make an appearance and sings Cee-lo's "Forget You."
The film includes some interviews with "Glee" fans with "interesting" stories. They include a girl with Asperger's syndrome who found friends through being a fan of the show, a little person who became a cheerleader and a gay teen who came out. The stories are interesting but being part of this film cheapens their experience and the poorly edited footage seems like a bad PBS documentary.
The DVD does include some bonus features. There is some songs that were cut out including "The Dog Days are Over" and a cover of Rebecca Black's "Friday." There are also extended performances of some songs and additional footage of the cast behind the scenes. The best part is the omitted footage of Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester making introductions of songs. An interesting feature is a feature that uses Shazam to deliver footage to your phone while you watch.
"Glee: The Concert Movie" is a half-assed attempt to leverage the best part of "Glee." Instead, it shows it's just a cheap marketing ploy and delivers neither an interesting concert nor film. Die-hard Gleeks will definitely want to watch the film.
