SCOTUS Does Not Rule on DOMA & Prop 8... Again

The Supreme Court held off on announcing their rulings on two landmark cases involving gay marriage on Thursday, according to the SCOTUSblog. The justices only have two days left in the month to announce their decisions on the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8.

The court also needs to rule on some other huge cases, including voting rights and affirmative action. The court usually recesses at the end of June, but could add more days if it so chooses. Many expect the court will rule on DOMA and Prop 8 next week.

"The Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end June on whether Proposition 8, California's ban on marriage for gay and lesbian couples, violates the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution," the American Foundation for Equal Rights writes. "The Court will begin announcing decisions at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. The ruling in the Prop. 8 case may not be the only one announced, and may be handed down before or after a number of other decisions."

SCOTUSblog reports that the Justices could rule on the gay marriage cases on June 26 or 27.

"We don't yet know when the last day - which is presumably when the same-sex marriage rulings will come down - will be. Based on past practice, the most likely days are June 26 and 27. But we can't say for sure."
