Organizers estimate about 500 people turned out for a gay pride parade in downtown Little Rock, but no protesters were spotted along the route.

The Saturday event was put on by the Central Arkansas Pride committee, which is a part of the Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays organization.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (http://is.gd/ls26zT ) the parade had about 15 floats and that about 30 organizations took part.

Central Arkansas Pride committee chair Jennifer Pierce said similar events in Conway have drawn protesters. She said protesters were expected Saturday, but none were on hand.

The parade was the first for the group. Pierce says she hopes the event grows in the years ahead and says the committee hopes to bring in more organizations in the future.
