4th Universalist Society Presents 'The Laramie Project Cycle'

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The 4th Universalist Society Unitarian Church in conjunction with the Matthew Shepard Foundation is hosting "The Laramie Project Cycle" composed of "The Laramie Project" and "The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later".

Bridging theatre and social justice, The Laramie Project at 4th U are staging two productions for the anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard. All proceeds and funds raised will go directly to Matthew Shepard Foundation in order to help further their mission to "replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion & Acceptance" through its varied educational, outreach and, advocacy programs and by continuing to tell Matthew's story.

On October 6, 1998 Matthew Shepard was beaten and tied to a fence in the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. He died six days later. His murder became a watershed historical moment in America that highlighted the violence and prejudice LGBT people face.

A month after the murder, the members of Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie and conducted interviews with the people of the town. From these interviews they wrote the play "The Laramie Project," which they later made into a film for HBO. One of the most performed plays of the last decade, the piece has been seen by more than 50 million people around the country.

The Matthew Shepard Foundation is a 501(c)3. Donations and tickets may be purchased through our IndieGoGo website: bit.ly/18zhv0G, our "Brown Bag Tickets" tickets website bit.ly/GAzLur or the 4th U website: 4thu.org.
