Castro debuts intersex Progress flag

BAR Staff READ TIME: 1 MIN.

A mural of a version of the Progress Pride flag that pays tribute to intersex people made its debut Friday, June 20, during a ceremony at Jane Warner Plaza in San Francisco’s LGBTQ neighborhood. Muralist Harry Breaux, center, skipped down the yellow brick road stripe of the flag, accompanied by two assistants in the painting project, Diana Sciarretta, left, and Kurt Gibson. The project was supported in part by the Castro Community Benefit District and was endorsed by the Castro Merchants Association earlier this year. The flag’s yellow chevron with a purple circle denotes intersex people. The Progress flag also recognizes Black and Brown people and includes the three colors of the transgender Pride flag, in addition to the six colors of the rainbow flag.
