A Russian man was sentenced to nine years in jail Tuesday for the stabbing death of a doctor who suggested they have "homosexual relations," Russia's RIA Novsti reports.

According to prosecutors from Russia's Novgorod region, which sits along the Volkhov River and is on the M10 federal highway that connects Moscow and St. Petersburg, the killer stabbed the doctor in the back.

The killer is from a small town called Malovishersky, which is located in Novogrod, and reportedly visited the doctor's home last summer in order to seek medical help while under the influence of an unknown drug. A substance abuse counselor was also present.

During the meeting the doctor allegedly asked that the unnamed man have sex, which set the man off, leading him to stab the doctor in the back with a knife.

The man, who had a prior conviction, was found guilty of manslaughter.
