Muppets Most Wanted
Kevin Taft READ TIME: 2 MIN.
The sequel to the successful reboot of the "Muppets" franchise "Muppets Most Wanted" didn't really have the legs of the first film and that's a shame. Because the follow-up is a hilarious musical send-up of sequels, Muppets, and musicals all rolled up into one infectious package. Many critics didn't feel the same, but I actually thought this was more enjoyable than the last Muppet movie because of the consistent and clever humor. Not only that, each musical number -- while having brilliant lyrics -- adapts a different style to not only suit the character, but to play on various musical tropes. So if you're a fan of the Muppets and the reboot made you smile, don't be afraid to check out their latest adventure. It doesn't hurt that there are a plethora of extras to tickle your funny-bone as well.
The "Unnecessarily Extended Edition" adds 12 extra minutes to the film, not to mention there's "The Longer Longest Muppets Blooper Reel in Muppets' History" which is true and it's hysterical. There's also "Rizzo's Biggest Fan" where the tiny rat with lack of screen time pleads with the filmmakers for the next movie to be all about him. The "Statler and Waldorf Cut" is better left to be experienced since "cut" is a key word here. Lastly, there's a music video for "I'll Get You What You Want" as performed by Bret McKenzie.
Conspicuously absent is a Making Of featurette, but it seems like in the Muppets' universe, it's better left to your imagination that the Muppets are actually living, breathing beings. To watch "how" the filmmakers make them all work would be blasphemous or like finding out your favorite holiday icon isn't real. Yikes. Tears.
