NY Fashion Week: Czar by César Galindo - Heaven on Earth

With all the gay icons passing this year - Lauren Bacall, Elaine Stritch, and most recently Joan Rivers - we can at least take consolation with how fabulous heaven looks filled with all these glittering stars. Openly gay designer Csar Galindo's focus seemed gazed toward heaven with his Czar by Csar Galindo Spring 2015 collection.

Although officially titled "The Get Away Collection," Galindo mixed a sense of the divine with the jet-set: the hot seaside sun was juxtaposed with the pearly gates, and it all collided into what felt like a "Mediterranean Holiday on Mount Olympus" vibe.

The moment you walked into the presentation at The Hudson Hotel (proving to be a nice fit for the second season in a row for Galindo), you were struck by the two-dozen models standing like Greek goddesses upon a sea of white cloud-like fabric with artists sketching images at their feet. This homage to painters and poets throughout history was both cleverly on point, but also offered an in-the-moment alternative perception of the clothes right in front of you.

Speaking of which, the Czar Spring 2015 lineup was truly heaven-sent. The first look was a draped and gathered v-neck caftan in brilliant sheer chiffon emblazoned with a snake print composed of sunrise yellows and emerald greens. The effect was straight out of Medusa's playbook: instant and impactful. This chic print would snake throughout in a youthful mini-dress version with a high neck, and on a daring python tie-back bandeau with major come hither.

Strong Grecian pleating echoed throughout the collection including acid yellow, sand, and Baltic blue colorblock body-con jersey knit pieces that had a decadent Halston influence, and '70s style slinky silver and gold lam deep-v gowns, and super sexy bandeaus paired with maxi skirts. According to Galindo, there is a Giorgio Moroder-filled disco waiting for us in the sky. (Here's hoping!)

Sea nymph pastels were splashed in abundance, too: from lemon yellow and rose coral sequin mini dresses that celestially glimmered, to pale terracotta and cypress green light tweeds that gave a siren call to reach out and touch their softness. There was also a hooded number (a Galindo signature piece that gets re-interpreted each season) that mixed together wavy tones. It would be a Herculean feat for all but the very young to pull this style off.

Many of the looks presented were topped off with frosted matte Lucite necklaces in tonal pastel shades with cherubic, rounded pendants, sunburst statement drops or regal collars. These show stoppers are not the jewels for mere mortals.

Like a modern-day fresco, a trompe-l'il mosaic print made a bold artistic declaration on a sleek column dress. It featured a sultry halter back, and like many of the models' hairstyles, there was a special Midas touch of gold metal intertwined in a braided ponytail for a luxuriously radiant finish.

Leaving the Czar by Csar Galindo presentation, you couldn't help but smile from the transcendent assortment of spring looks. If heaven really is a place on earth, it would include at least a few of these stunning moments.
